Where do the used boots the defense department sells come from?
I've seen various companies and auctions on ebay that sell somewhat used combat boots bought from the Department of Defense. It got me thinking, where do these boots come from? Or rather, is there any chance that they may be selling boots that were previously owned by servicemen that were killed?
They are from two main places.
Either they are from basic trainees that fail out or it was stockpile that was not used and is getting to old and meeting its shelf-life or has been replaced with a new model of boot.
The people that auction them usually buy them in bulk at DRMO sales held at military bases. They usually have more then boots too. Furniture, computers, sometimes scrap metal.... all kinds of things all of it old.
