how do i transfer to the United States Air Force Academy?
I just finished a prep school where i did really well in academics and in football and now about to start college next fall 2010. My goal is to get into the Air Force Academy what are the steps i need to achieve this?
College credits do not directly transfer but courses can be validated for credit on a course for course basis. A pre candidate can compete for an appointment as long as he is not past his 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year of induction to the Academy. Regardless of course validation, each cadet spends a full four years at the Academy. The deadline to submit the online pre-candidate questionnaire was January 31. In addition, unless a pre candidate has another source for a nomination, most MOC- pre-candidates congressmen and senators- cut off applications for a nomination during the month of October. Having stated the above, if you are attempting to be recruited for football, I suggest contacting the athletic department. There is no need for a nomination for students who are offered the Air Force Academy Prep school, since they are enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and placed on active duty status the day of entrance into the prep school and paid active duty salary. Academy cadets in contrast earn less, 35% of a 2nd Lieutenant's pay. If the prep school year is completed, the prep school student is appointed to the Academy on a Secretary of the Air Force nomination. If you are or are not a D1 caliber recruit, it would be a good idea to go to a college that has an Afrotc detachment or cross town school arrangements with an Afrotc detachment....

.....and enroll in Afrotc. Each Afrotc Detachmant commander can give five nominations to the Academy. This gives an additional source of a nomination in case you are in a very competitive congressional district. Each MOC can have five cadets he nominated and were charged off to him at at Usafa at any point in time. For each vacancy due to graduation or otherwise, he can nominate 10 candidates to compete for the appointment. Candidates earning an LOA who accept an offer of appointment are not charged off to the nominating MOC as one of his five cadets. There are only a total of 20 appointments in the second round of competition within nominating sources for all Jrotc/Rotc nominations but a nomination from any source turns an LOA(letter of assurance).....

..... into an offer of appointment and also turns a triple qualified(scholastically, physically, medically) pre candidate into a fully qualified candidate who is then waitlisted. There are usually around 500 offers of appointment off the waitlist at the Air Force Academy.

The path to an appointment is nearly identical at Usafa, Usma and Usna. The weighting of the whole candidate score by which selection decisions are made is detailed in the pie chart in the top of page 7 of the current Usafa catalog. It's a good idea to read the entire chapter on "Admissions."

From the above, certain common accomplishments stand out. 2/3 have been NHS members. 2/3 have been athletic team captains. Around 90% have earned varsity athletic letters. If you don't have this type of extracurricular composite, you have time to work on it. An Afrotc Detachment Commander's letter of recommendation will be very helpful.
