Air Force
Friday, December 24th, 2010What is the difference between directly joining the air force and going to the Air Force academy?
I understand that at the USAFA, they further train you on certain subjects, but can't you do that in the Air Force by just joining, as well? What are the perks of going to the academy rather than joining the air force. Is there a major difference?
The Air Force Academy is the Air Force equivalent of the Army's West Point. They are both colleges.
With both of those schools, you have certain criteria to meet like ACT scores and more.
During this time, you live a military lifestyle while earning you degree. When you graduate, you are Commissioned as a O-1 (2LT).
If you join the Air Force as enlisted, you start at the bottom of the enlisted ranks and do not earn a degree (unless you attend college while in).
Or you could join the Air Force with a Bachelor's, go through their OCS and become Commissioned.
