Friday, September 10th, 2010What are the similarities between the Vietnam revolution in the Indochina War and the American Revolution?
The Viet Minh claimed that in the First Indochina War they were only holding a revolution against their French opressors, and that the Americans should be able to relate to their cause based on their own revolution against the English in the 18th century. And becaue of this similarity the Americans should not be opposing the Viet Minh and aiding the French in the First Indochina War.
So what are the similarities and differences between those two revolutions?
similarities - revolution was to overthrow rule from an oversea country
differences - the viet minh were trting to expel foreign "invaders" who had taken over their country about 150 years before, the "americans" were only 2 or 3 generations at most away from having the same nationality as the country they were trying to expel - the vast majority of the "americans" were either born british or were first/second generation births in the US
