Tactical Fighter
Thursday, July 8th, 2010How to be a pilot in the armed forces?
I have a Bachelors of Business Administration and have worked as Head Manager of a reputable Forbes company (Salary is 66k~). Now I have decided to completely change course and be a pilot in the Armed Services. I have a passion for aircraft and piloting in general. I love researching about fighter craft and different tactical manuevers like the Cobra. I am absolutely in love with physics too. I have a strong mental attitude, an exceptional academic record of 3.9 GPA, physically fit, and leadership capabilities.
I would prefer to be a fighter pilot. I know they take only the best of the best - that Top 10%. But I'm willing to do it because I have a strong drive.
So what steps must I do to be a pilot? My eye's are a bit bad but I would believe I would get PRK surgery. Also, do I have to get a Bachelors in Engineering?
Thanks!
I don't mind UAV's.
The AF still has pilots. The newest fighter the F-35 and a fairly new addition the F-22. The first part of the process is getting accepted to OCS and then to pilot training. Right now there are a few slots available via that avenue but the Academy takes a big chunk of the slots. Talk to a recruiter and insist on a pilot training slot or no deal. Pilot training is a whole year long. Based on how well you do there the assignments might be cargo, fighter, training or support. Since it depends on how well you do there, you might want to get a head start and get a private pilot course complete before you go if for no other reason to familiarize you with the lingo.
Eye sight is spelled out and I remember it used to be 20-70 but there are restrictions for getting eye surgery. Find out the answer to that and compare your eye sight with the restriction.
You might consider joining a guard or reserve unit but it might take longer to get a pilot training slot and you might have to work maintenance for some time before you get to go. I think the upper age limit is 27 for active, I'm not sure about the guard or reserve.
