War Metal
Saturday, July 3rd, 2010Does god of war 1, god of war 2 and metal gear solid 3 push the ps2 near or to its limits?
I have been hearing about this game called god of war and mgs3 for ps2. Now i have also heard from some people that these games have quite good graphics. And a few people say it pushes the ps2 to its max. Is this true does mgs3 and god of war 1 and 2 push the ps2 to or near its limit.
yes, actually god of war series was about as good as a game could get on ps2. They're widely considered the best ever on the ps2. They're about the only title I agree with reviewers about that they were actually among the best. Not as good as Gran Turismo 4, though.
To appreciate GoW on ps2, you've gotta see it in progressive scan. Then you'll appreciate the beautifully precise animations and the smooth-running 3d engine.
I don't know what framerate it hit, but it doesn't matter. Game makers used to blab about how they would push 60 on ps2 for this or that game, but when they do that, it just means they're too lazy to actually make a game. It doesn't have to be 60fps to look good. I think the idea came from pc users using fps as a benchmark for their pc's performance. The human eye just can't tell the difference between 40 and 60. Even blu-ray movies run at 24 fps just like all movies.
What mattered was that GoW looked good, ran smooth, and best of all, had a great fighting system where you have to think and react fast, and no button mashing. Lots of cool 3d exploring too. A bit heavy on boss battles though.
MGS3 didn't push the ps2 at all, but it was a great game nonetheless. It has no progressive scan. Not great graphically, but if you want a game instead of a graphics, mgs3 is in about the top 10 in terms of quality.
Most games that hype their graphics are games that suck and have nothing else to hype.
