Usmc Rokmc
Dear USMC Marines or former marines?
My brother is in the ROKMC, and he received a meritorious mast from a USMC officer. Apparntly it was a legit ceremony where the USMC officers presented it with utmost respect. He says he would have been promoted if he was in the USMC.
What really is the meritorious mast? Is it good? Is it hard to get? what does it mean? I am asking marines or former marines or anyone who actually knows.
he was in training with USMC marines because he is a translator.
Hello there,
Congratulations to your brother in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.
Yes, he received a high honor. A "mast" is a Navy way of saying that there was a ceremony to recognize his accomplishment for duty performed as a translator for the US Marines.
The Commanding Officer recognized your bother before the unit and told of his accomplishments and awarded him an official citation of excellence and appreciation for the Marines.
This is an honor.
You can see an example of a Meritorious Mast certificate here:

A Meritorious Mast is a formation during which awards and promotions are made.
From the navy tradition of gathering the crew around the main mast of the ship to deliver punishment and rewards.
In the modern Marine Corps it is a written recognition of work well done and is of greater value than a Letter of Appreciation or a Certificate of Commendation.
Best wishes.
