what is the day of a navy USN AC (air traffic controller) like?
i'm really interested in doing air traffic control in the navy, it's my number one choice, i'm just wondering what the day in the life of one is like at sea, on land? how many hours, i know it must be at all times cause plains land at all hours.
where in an aircraft carrier are you located? in the island, below flight deck, if in the island what level?
also, i heard they don't have to do a lot of the "grunt" work on a ship because they can only work a certain amount of hours, is there any truth to that? I was under the impression everyone chips in with keeping it clean etc.
If you really want to do ATC work go into the airforce or go to an FAA approved school.
Shore duty varies from station to station but expect to work your way up. Opportunuties are there for hard chargers.
If you really want to go the Navy ATC route you really want to go to shore and at least make E-5 before you ever board a ship.
What you heard about about doing alot of grunt work is a bunch of crap. Lower ranked enlisted sailors can be expected to do everything but control traffic. Probabaly the closest you'll get to a scope your first few years is when you are cleaning it.
Just remember on a ship your a sailor and what your job is doesn't really matter. It's all about rank and not rate.
