Vet Ball
Should I take my baby ball python to the vet?
I have a young, female ball python approximately 5 months old. Last week she had trouble feeding, we had switched her to a larger mouse, it was no bigger then the widest part of her body so we thought it was the right move. The next morning we called the vet and switched her back to smaller mice (pre-killed), now we have another issue. We tried to feed her again and she accepted, but then we noticed that she is randomly and with growing frequency squeaking or potentially wheezing when she breathes. We have yet to see any mucous bubbles or open mouth breathing, the question is does she have and RI and should I take her to the vet right away?
The earlier you catch it the better if it is RI... what I, personally would do would be up the cage temps for a week or so, if the symptoms persist, contact your vet... you see, being cold blooded, reptiles can't run fevers, and it's up to us to make it possible for them to run one if they need it (Higher cage temps = higher body temperature = higher metabolism and immune response)... if the squeaking/wheezing is still happening after a week or so, medication may be needed... the sad thing is, many people wait until they have bubbles and snot before they even think that there might be something wrong with their snake, this can be way too late...
Good luck.
